Modesto, CA 3/1/2012– The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named DuctTesters, Inc as a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through its work as a Home Energy Rater. DuctTesters accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 15, 2012, which marks the 20th anniversary of ENERGY STAR.
DuctTesters, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2007, is being honored for their work in qualifying new homes to earn the ENERGY STAR. Home Energy Raters provide the evaluation, testing, and independent verification required for ENERGY STAR qualified homes.
DuctTesters has made promoting ENERGY STAR a standard way of business. By offering each home a look at what the ENERGY STAR standards look like against minimum code requirements, the builder really gets to see all the options. The builders and homeowners recognize the ENERGY STAR brand and want to understand the benefits and costs, so DuctTesters promotes the value and savings through education and analysis.
The DuctTesters approach to promoting ENERGY STAR is to first get the Builders “Buy In”. They really strive to get everyone to commit to what ENERGY STAR stands for including the construction crew, right on into the sales staff that deals with the potential buyer directly. Getting the construction team to commit gives them some personal involvement and a greater desire to make sure it is done right. The biggest benefit to the builder comes from getting the sales staffs to accept, understand and commit. When the sales team understands the ENERGY STAR motto, they gain a passion about it. They can tell everyone about the energy features of their homes and they present them with a passion that ultimately comes across to the buyer.
“The energy-efficient homes that earn the ENERGY STAR provide extra value for home buyers,” said Dave Hegarty, President of DuctTesters. “Homes built to ENERGY STAR standards are more comfortable, plus they ensure long-term savings on energy bills while protecting the environment and we are proud to promote it to our homebuilders.”
The 2012 Partner of the Year Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by promoting energy-efficient homes in their community. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. ENERGY STAR qualified new homes use substantially less energy for heating, cooling, and water heating – homeowners can expect to save about $200-$400 annually on their utility bills. Currently more than 6,700 builders across the nation are constructing homes that meet EPA’s strict guidelines for energy efficiency. More than 1.3 million American families now live in ENERGY STAR qualified homes.
Over the past 20 years, American families and businesses have saved nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 350 million vehicles with help from ENERGY STAR.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ENERGY STAR program, EPA is proud to recognize DuctTesters as a 2012 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “DuctTesters and all our ENERGY STAR award winners are working closely with builders and others in the home construction industry to adopt higher levels of energy-efficient building practices, making our nation’s new homes more affordable to own and more comfortable to live in.”
