Refrigerant Charge Test

‎HERSRaters‬, Shane, performing a Refrigerant Charge Test

A number of air conditioners undergo final assembly when they are being installed. Since air conditioning units are not fully completed during the production line, the unit falls outside of the manufacturing quality control. This has led to air conditioning units not meeting or achieving their rated efficiency levels. When air conditioning units get installed, proper amounts of refrigerant, evacuation, and metering devices must be set up per mandated building code and manufacturer instructions without any deviations. In order to improve California’s air condition efficiency, the California Building Energy Efficiency Standards defined methods of verifying the correct charge and proper air condition system operation.
